Herbal Care Rx is a Philadelphia-based doctor's office that provides certifications for medical marijuana use across all of Pennsylvania.
We believe that cannabis, or marijuana, is medicine. Our mission is to improve access to this medicine.
Our doctors are dedicated to compassionately assisting those in need of a medical marijuana card throughout the certification process. Once you have been certified by our doctors for medical marijuana use, you will be eligible for your PA medical card for use at any dispensary in the state. Recently, we were nominated as Philadelphia's best alternative medicine business by Metro Philly's Best.
Let us help you find relief from your symptoms.
The Pennsylvania medical cannabis program was established to give patients who are seeking relief from and treatment for serious medical conditions access to safe, regulated Medical Marijuana.
When a patient has been certified for MMJ use by a licensed doctor, the state will issue them a card that can be presented at a dispensary to purchase marijuana.
To qualify for certification, patients need to:
Patients seeking a medical card have often found it difficult to find relief for their symptoms and conditions through traditionally prescribed medicine. They may have also found the side effects of prescribed treatments and psychiatric medication too severe. They may also want a card to present to an employer or otherwise gain legal protection for their medical marijuana use.
Here are some (but not all) of the advantages to getting your MMJ Card:
Medical cannabis can alleviate many symptoms depending on the type of product that is used and the way it is used. Using cannabis to decrease the severity of symptoms can lead to improved function and improved quality of life.
In Pennsylvania, patients must be seeking treatment for an "approved serious medical condition" to be eligible for medical marijuana use. New conditions have been added throughout the years since the program began as patients advocate for their right to treat their symptoms with MMJ.
Below is a short list of some of the most common conditions. If you don't see a condition that fits, click the link to see the full list of approved conditions in PA. If you have any questions about whether you would qualify, contact us using the link below.

All PA residents interested in obtaining their Medical Marijuana Cards must first register and create an account with the PA Department of Health (PA DoH).
Although it can seem complicated, the process of registering with the DoH for your medical marijuana card is surprisingly simple and easy to do completely online.
You'll only need a few things before you start:
Go to www.medicalmarijuana.pa.gov , and click on "Apply for ID/Access Account"
There will be an option to start a new account on the left-hand side called Adult Patient Registration. Click that link. Fill out the form using All-Caps with your name address and License number exactly how it appears on your PA ID. Once you've successfully registered, you'll be prompted to create a username and password for your account and you will be given a 6-digit Department of Health ID number. Keep that number and your account login for your records, you'll need them later!
Once you have your Pennsylvania Department of Health ID#, you're ready to book an appointment with us!
You'll be able to completely book your appointment using our forms, but you'll also get the option to have someone from our team contact you if you have any questions or issues you need addressed. In that case, please select "I would like to be contacted first" at the end of the first form. If you're ready to book now, you will be prompted to complete the steps below.
When it's time for your appointment, one of our licensed practitioners will give you a call on the phone. The practitioner will talk with you, submit the medical cannabis certification online, and answer any questions you have.
After you have received your certification for medical cannabis use by the physician, it's time to revisit the Pennsylvania Department of Health website to get your card!
Using your username and password from Step 1, log back into your account, then navigate to the "Make a Payment" tab. Having your medical card printed will cost $50 and you can use a debit or credit card to make the payment. If you receive Medicaid, PACE/PACENET, CHIP, SNAP, or WIC, you can have the $50 fee for the card waived completely.
Getting your card usually takes about 2-3 weeks after payment and it will be mailed to you. Your card's status can be checked on your profile page.
If you're having issues making your payment to the DoH after your appointment, email us at help@herbalcarerx.com and our staff will do their best to assist you.
If you already have a Pennsylvania Medical Cannabis Card, the process to renew is simple.
Each year your current medical card will expire and will need to be renewed. To renew, you will need to do the following:
Log into the same Department of Health account you created when you received your first certification to pay for a new card to be issued. This card will be mailed to you once you have been recertified.
Each year, Pennsylvania law requires that patients also receive an updated certification from a licensed medical marijuana doctor. That's us! Follow the links to book an appointment with us or check out our detailed step-by-step guide to renewing your card annually if you have more questions.
Caregivers are individuals who have been designated to assist patients with the procurement of Medical Marijuana.
Who can serve as a caregiver? An individual 21 years of age or older, unless authorized by the department, can serve as a caregiver. Caregivers must register with the Department of Health and follow the instructions to complete a criminal history background check with the commonwealth's authorized vendor.
All caregivers must complete a criminal history background check with the commonwealth's authorized vendor, before receiving their certification. This process takes 4-8 weeks after registration. Details can be found in the user’s DoH profile after registering. You cannot be approved as a caregiver if you have been convicted of a criminal offense relating to the sale or possession of drugs, narcotics or controlled substances within the last five years.
Who can have a caregiver? Any patient may designate a caregiver if they so choose. All minors are required to have a caregiver. There are three categories of patients who do not get an ID card, and thus need not enter a dispensary. Instead, a caregiver registers on their behalf and visits the dispensary for them. These categories include:
There are 4 ways to register as a caregiver:
Please reach us at help@herbalcarerx.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
No, all appointments are conducted over the phone so there's no need to travel anywhere!
Registration with the Department of Health creates an account that is used to track the status of your certification and is a prerequisite for being certified by a physician whereas certifications for cannabis use are issued by a licensed clinical practitioner and are required for a Medical Marijuana card.
The $50 fee is for the Pennsylvania Department of Health to print and issue your Medical Cannabis Card and is a separate fee from your certification consultation with the doctor.
If the doctor does not approve you for a medical marijuana card we will issue you a full refund for your appointment.
Your patient ID number is issued by the Department of Health when you register. Click here for more detailed info and instructions
Log into your Department of Health account here then click on the tab that says "My Profile".
All patients are required to fill out an intake form every year.
Once you've had your certification appointment with the doctor and paid for your card to be issued, it can take up to two weeks for the card to arrive in the mail. Cards will often arrive much sooner than that. If two weeks have gone by and you haven't received it yet, let us know and we will check on it for you.
The most common cause for delayed cards is forgetting to pay the Department of Health the $50 fee for your card after your appointment. Log into your account and go to "My Profile". It should tell you your card status. If it is blank, you may have to go to the "Make a Payment" tab and pay the Department of Health.
Please confirm that the address listed on your DoH account is your current address. If it is not, your card may have been shipped to another address. Please call the Department of Health helpline 888-733-5595.
If your correct address is listed, contact us and we will check in on the status of your certification.
Tracking your symptom and mood changes over time can be very helpful if you're experimenting with dosages or new strains. Check out our guide to starting and maintaining an MMJ use journal here.
