Courtney Waters, MD

Courtney Waters, MD, has been interested in holistic, alternative, and natural remedies her entire life. As a child growing up in the South, she listened as her gardening grandparents taught her remedies and recipes they had used for decades and taught her about foods that promoted health. She fell in love with biology and chemistry in high school, especially as these sciences related to the human body, so she knew a career in medicine was right for her. Prior to medical school she studied the pharmacology behind recreational drugs and drugs of abuse, like alcohol, on the brain at Wake Forest University School of Medicine after she graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She went on to continue this research in Denver, Colorado. This work was where her interest in cannabis as medicine was born. While continuing her research career in a lab in Denver’s University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Dr. Waters also attended the Rocky Mountain Institute for Botanical Studies in Boulder, Colorado, where she studied the healing properties of plants readily available in our environment.

Dr. Waters then went on to obtain her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She moved to the Philadelphia area after graduating from medical school to be closer to family and to complete a residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. It was at Thomas Jefferson that Dr. Waters had the pleasure and privilege to work with Dr. Maury, who was one of her teaching attendings. She felt an immediate connection with Dr. Maury and was excited to reconnect with her and join her on her mission to make cannabis accessible to all who need it at Herbal Care Rx.

She is board certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr Waters is committed to learning constantly about cannabis and the breadth of the power of cannabis to treat a wide variety of medical conditions.
